Camera angels

Over the past few lessons, we have been experimenting with different camera angels. we have considered to use birds eye view, close ups, long shots, side view shots, two man shots and have considered using other objects to film such as taking pictures of pictures and eventually bringing them together… this will give an effect that they are moving pictures.

Each of these angles will give different effects and cause the viewer to think different things. such as the birds eye view, we are planning to film shannon lying down facing up at the camera, this will give a more emotional feeling and also show that shannon is thinking to herself.

Places to film

Previously, we have planned to film in the Dance and Drama studio, and from finding out when it is available we took the opportunity to film in it. However we only had enough time to film for 40 minutes (1 lesson) which means there could have been a slight rush. This is why it is important that we are prepared before the session. To make sure that we were prepared, we had to find someone who was able to operate the lighting as we was not authorised.

We also had to decide what type of thing we was going to film. Whereas the song can be slow in some parts, we decided to make a more calm approach- which means we filmed Shannon sitting on a tall stall, wearing a long dress and in a spot light.
We would then use a wheelchair to track the camera around shannon. The wheelchair enabled us to give a smooth movement but it was essential the circle around shannon was the same size all the way round.

Thinking forward, we have considered filming in a bedroom where a couple are arguing,  and in the woods- where the singer will be walking around and singing to the camera.

Roles

Reflecting on our previous assignment to create a  film opening scene, we was able to decide who was better at what; which made it easier to know who is going to do what. However we all still want to participates with different jobs. Last year I was focusing more on the setting, however this time I am still going to work on the setting, but also help with the camera. Even though Katie usually works the camera, another person was needed to push the wheelchair around to help give a tracking effect. Shannon was also helping to work on the scene, however she wanted a change this time so we all agreed that she would be the main character in the music video. This worked out well because Grace wanted to work behind the scenes as well (she was acting last year herself) Even though Grace was a good actor last year, we think it is a great opportunity for Grace and Shannon see what they prefer doing.

Plot\plan

This spider diagrams shows possible ideas that can be included in our music video. We may not decide to use all these features however it gives us choices. I particularly like the idea of cloning characters as it gives a more professional effect.

Selecting the song

To hekp make our music video more realistice, we chose to find a voice that could be possibly sung by the actor. This rules out black singers, as they tend to have stronger voices such as Beyonce; and male singers because our actor will be female.
Relating back to our research, we have decided to use one of Paloma Faiths songs. However we could not decide what song to use, which resulted us to put all her music songs in a hat and randomly pick a song. In the end we chose Paloma Faiths "Smoke and Mirrors". This is the song we are going to use in our video.

pop video research

To help us brain storm ideas for our pop video, we decided to use the internet and search professional pop videos and other A2 media music videos they created in the past.
In all the videos we watched, we focused on the costume, camera angles and how they're constructed. At this point, we did not focus on any song that we wanted to use, otherwise we believed we would be tempted to copy the music video and not go with our own ideas.
One of the Artists we focused on was Paloma Faith. In her videos she provides a range of costume designs, settings and camera angles.

Aim

My task is to create a music pop video. As part of the task, my group must chose what song they we want to do, who is going to do what and the story line of the video.
